University of Vienna, Yakın Doğu Çalışmaları Bölümü'nde kıdemli doktora sonrası araştırmacıdır. 2015 yılında Arizona Üniversitesi'nden Osmanlı İzmir'inin kentsel ve çevre tarihi üzerine doktora derecesini almıştır. Avrupa Çevre Tarihi Derneği'nin (ESEH) yönetim kurulu üyesi ve genel sekreteridir. 2017-2025 yılları arasında Türkiye bölge temsilciliği yapmıştır.
Araştırması geç Osmanlı İmparatorluğu ve erken cumhuriyet dönemi Türkiye'sinin kentsel ve çevre tarihlerine odaklanmaktadır. "Gateway to the Mediterranean: An Environmental History of the Late Ottoman Izmir" adlı monografisi 2025 yılında Cambridge University Press tarafından yayınlanmıştır.

Deniz Armağan Akto (Ph.D., Bilkent University, 2025). He received his Ph.D from Bilkent University with a thesis entitled "The Ottoman Military, Socio-Economic and Administrative Order in the Lower Danube (From the Mid-15th to the End of the 16th Century): The Cases of Vidin and Niğbolu". His work focuses on the socio-economic and military history of the early modern Ottoman Empire, with a geographic emphasis on southeastern Europe.
He is a member of the European Society for Environmental History (ESEH) and the Early Modern Ottoman Studies (EMOS) group. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals, such as Archivum Ottomanicum and Wiener Zeitschrift für die Kunde des Morgenlandes (WZKM).

Budapeşte'deki Eötvös Loránd Üniversitesi'nden Arkeoloji bölümünden mezun olmuştur. Hem lisans hem de yüksek lisans tezleri Buda'nın Su Şehri'ndeki bir kazıdan çıkan Osmanlı ve Erken Modern Dönem seramiklerinin analizine odaklanmıştır.
Birkaç yıl arkeolog olarak çalıştıktan sonra, Orta Avrupa Üniversitesi'nde ikinci bir yüksek lisans derecesi almış ve Kisvárda Kalesi'nin tarihi ve arkeolojik kayıtlarını incelemiştir. Şu anda CEU'da doktora adayıdır ve Macaristan'daki Yukarı-Tisza bölgesinin çevre tarihini çalışmaktadır.

Mehmet Kuru received his Ph.D. from the Department of History at the University of Toronto in 2017. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the History Program at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Sabancı University, where he also serves as the founder and coordinator of the Digital Humanities (DH) Lab.
His research focuses broadly on the economic and social history of the Ottoman Empire and the early modern Mediterranean world. His work specifically explores commercial networks, the dynamics of port cities, and monetary history. Through these themes, he examines the historical economic transformations of the region.
